My Sisters' Keeper

My Sisters’ Keeper Inc ( a 501 (c) (3) Non-for-Profit organizations) is a Brooklyn base community mentoring program geared towards first time young mothers between the ages of 13-19. Their mission is to encourage young mothers to continue their education and assist them in developing career goals. My Sisters' Keeper Inc. provide adequate education on contraception, with the intention to help them prevent multiple births within their teen years.

Founded in 2005 by Tashima M. Jackson, Executive Director of My Sisters' Keeper Inc. Tashima felt it was her duty to help teenage girls overcome obstacles that they were bound to face. She realized teen pregnancy was going to be a social issue that was going to escalate as years passed because she once was a victim herself of teen pregnancy. Tashima was able to make a decision that she felt was best for her at that time. Unfortunately, the fact remains that a number of young mothers do not have a positive role model to guide them through life. As a result, they allow their current situation to interfere with their future goals. Seeing how it was so easy for a new mother to repeat the same cycle was a little disturbing to Tashima. Listening to people tell her that she couldn't change the situation or that there wasn’t enough money for all the headaches she was going to encounter. Undaunted Tashima took on the challenge of making a long-term difference in the lives of young mothers in her community my starting up My Sisters' Keeper Inc., "There is no reason to live life just for yourself. If you can’t help people grow, how can you grow?" --- Tashima M. Jackson.
