The Sabathia family's official foundation is "PitCCh In", a 501 (c)(3) national non profit dedicated to enriching the lives of children. "PitCCh In" works to provide support, hope, comfort, and care to kids in need, as well as encourages a safe and healthy lifestyle.
My parents taught me at an early age that humility and taking a leadership role seriously is important. I've taken that to heart and try to live my life in a way that kids can look up to and learn from and that other adults can appreciate.
A huge part of that is my active involvement in the community where I play baseball but also in my hometown of Vallejo, California . I'm also involved in some national charities like the Boys and Girls Clubs, Strikeouts for Troops (see below) and the Larry Doby RBI program.
It can often times get lost in the mix of important world and national news but there are a lot of athletes that take pride in taking advantage of their positions in their communities to give back. I pride myself on being one of them.
I have been a regular participant in the Cleveland Indians Winter Press Caravan and has been involved in numerous community endeavors during his tenure with Cleveland including: OfficeMax Parent-Child Clinics, the Larry Doby RBI Program, Red Cross' "Fire Prevention Week," the Cleveland Scholarship Program, Grand Slam Summer Literacy, High Achievers and the Giant Eagle week-long baseball camps. I am a regular visitor to children's hospitals in the Bay Area and throughout the country.
I can't stress enough how important it is to give back to the community and help as many people as you can to help them live the better lives they deserve.
